Cerenkov luminescence imaging (CLI) has emerged as a novel optical modality in molecular imaging. CLI is based on the detection of Cerenkov radiation emitted when charged particles travel through biological tissues faster than the velocity of light in the tissue. This seminar explores the physics and different preclinical applications of CLI, from early small-animal results, up to the acquisition of human Cerenkography and ex vivo images. Finally, more recent developments on Cerenkov luminescence microscopy (CLM) for 3D tumour spheroids will be discussed.
