Bevan Cheeseman

Find out how to work with terabytes of image data, accelerate procesisng and generate AI-ready data sets. Bevan Cheeseman, Dataflight, will present in our Tech Exchange on 30th OCT 2026.

The title of his talk: "From images to discovery: an agentic data platform for large-scale imaging".

AI agents can now plan, run and explain scientific analysis, and modern microscopes routinely produce datasets of tens to hundreds of gigabytes. Yet the loop from data to discovery is still broken. Data, tools and context are scattered across systems, and useful analyses stay trapped in one-off scripts. The sheer size of imaging data makes it slow and expensive to move, view and compute on.

Overview of the platform concept explained with the same public CC0 dataset.

In this talk we present Dataflight, an agentic data platform built to close this gap. Dataflight is a web-native scientific operating system where researchers and their AI agents store, view, analyse and report on data in one place. It is built from reusable apps, pipelines and reports, and runs in the cloud or on an organisation's own infrastructure. Researchers bring their existing code, formats and models with them. For large images, our peer-reviewed Adaptive Particle Representation (APR) makes them practical to stream, view and analyse, even in a web browser, from everyday gigabyte datasets up to terabytes. We will show the platform in action on real imaging workflows. We will also discuss what it means for imaging facilities and industry labs.
