The Euro-BioImaging Med-Hub section director, Linda Chaabane, was invited to participate in the Symposium on ‘Empowering Italian Euro-BioImaging infrastructure’ organised by the Italian nodes that are participating in the SEE-LIFE project. The SEE-LIFE project is dedicated to scaling up the imaging services, thanks to an important national investment (PNRR/recovery funding). The symposium was organised to highlight the cutting-edge imaging techniques and new staff members at the Nodes. The programme included biological and biomedical imaging sessions as well as a round-table discussion led by Luca Menichetti (CNR scientist in Pisa)with a delegate from a pharmaceutical company, and our Med-Hub section director.
National investments from the SEE-LIFE project are clearly reinforcing the capacities of the nodes across all scales, from molecules (advanced microscopy techniques) to in vivo imaging (preclinical and clinical) including combined multimodal imaging techniques, allowing them to be competitive by providing access to cutting-edge technologies for a broad range of applications in Life Sciences.
At the event, Linda Chaabane gave a talk on "The Role of Distributed Research Infrastructures in Biomedical and Biological Imaging: The Euro-Bioimaging ERIC" and participated in the round-table discussion with the nodes and a large, Italian pharmaceutical company about the challenges for industries to take advantage of research infrastructure services. From this discussion, it emerged that industry partners would need to better understand and analyse the imaging services available, including the specific competencies that are essential to identify the potential applications. In this regard, a regular dialogue with the nodes is key.
Industry partners are clearly interested in drug testing under specific certifications as requested for translational developments but also to further exploit innovative solutions to support drug discovery. The company recognised potential synergies with Euro-BioImaging and its unique and broad competencies and services offered by the nodes.
In addition to the new technologies, SEE-LIFE project also provides funding for user projects taking place at the Italian Advanced Light Microscopy Node and the Multi Modal Molecular Imaging (MMMI) Italian Node. Learn more about SEE-LIFE Open Call for User Access Funding.
