The Four Seasons of the Invisible / Contest rules
1. Eligibility
Participation in this contest is open exclusively to individuals who are members of the Euro-BioImaging Community or are actively engaged in scientific imaging and research. All participants must have attained the age of majority, defined as 18 years or older, in their respective jurisdictions at entry.
2. Contest Overview
The contest, The Four Seasons of the Invisible, celebrates the interplay between advanced scientific imaging technologies and the natural cycle of seasons. Entrants are invited to submit images or videos that artistically and scientifically depict the essence of the four seasons, such as decaying leaves for an entry to the Autumn session or imaging of flu viruses in Winter.
3. Contest Timeline
The contest shall be conducted in four distinct sessions, with each session corresponding to one of the four seasons as outlined below:
Spring Session: 31 March – 20 June 2025
Summer Session: 21 June – 21 September 2025
Autumn Session: 22 September – 20 December 2025
Winter Session: 21 December 2025 – 20 March 2026
4. Terms and Conditions
By participating in the contest, entrants agree to the following:
Only submitted entries obtained from scientific imaging technologies that are part of the Euro-BioImaging catalogue shall be deemed eligible. Macrophotography is expressly prohibited. Still images and videos are acceptable, provided they meet the technical and thematic requirements.
Participants grant Euro-BioImaging a non-exclusive license to utilise entries for its own promotional purposes worldwide, with appropriate attribution provided, provided that the entrant has opted in for such use.
Participants retain full and sole ownership of their submissions. Euro-BioImaging commits that submitted content will not be sold or transferred to third parties for any purpose.
Participants warrant that their submission is of their own creation, and does not infringe upon the intellectual property rights or any other rights of third parties.
Participants declare that they have full rights to the images or videos submitted, including all necessary permissions and clearances from collaborators or other stakeholders.
Participants accept that all decisions made by the judging panel and Euro-BioImaging regarding the contest are final and binding. No correspondence or discussion regarding the outcomes will be considered.
Finally, participants agree to adhere to the Euro-BioImaging Terms & Conditions as a requirement for submission.
5. Submission Guidelines
To ensure compliance with contest requirements, participants must adhere to the following submission guidelines:
Submissions shall be uploaded exclusively via the official contest platform on eurobioimaging.eu
There is no limitation on the number of entries an individual participant may submit.
Each entry must include:
- A descriptive title.
- A narrative explanation of how the image aligns with the seasonal theme.
- Technical details regarding the imaging technology utilised.
- The entrant’s title, first name, and last name.
- Affiliation details (e.g., research institution, Euro-BioImaging Node).
- Acknowledgements, if applicable (e.g., funding sources, collaborators).
All submitted images must follow the following technical specifications:
- Still images: Resolution not exceeding 1500 pixels in width; JPEG format.
- Videos: Resolution not exceeding 720 pixels in width; MP4 format.
6. Judging Process
All eligible submissions shall be evaluated by a panel of five (5) judges, whose composition may vary between sessions and may include artists, scientists, imaging specialists, and members of the Euro-BioImaging team. Entries will be assessed based on five (5) criteria, with each judge assigning points to each criterion as specified:
- Relevance to the seasonal theme (0–5 points)
- Aesthetic appeal (0–5 points)
- Originality (0–5 points)
- Scientific significance (0–5 points)
- Overall impression (0–10 points)
The submission receiving the highest aggregate score shall be deemed the winner. In the event of a tie, the panel shall convene to deliberate and cast decisive votes, with each panel member entitled to one vote.
7. Awards
Upon receipt submission, each season winner shall receive reimbursement for travel expenses, up to €1000, to attend one or several scientific conferences in 2025 or 2026. Eligible costs are conference fees, transportation, and accommodation.

These events typically feature keynote speeches, oral presentations, poster sessions showcasing current research, and opportunities for networking with peers, collaborators, and experts in the field. Scientific conferences often include workshops and panels that focus on skills development, methodologies, or debates on emerging topics. Additionally, they may host exhibition areas where vendors or sponsors display related technologies, tools, and services. The primary goal of a scientific conference is to foster collaboration, disseminate knowledge, and inspire innovation within the scientific community.
Winning entries from each season will be prominently featured on Euro-BioImaging’s official website, social media platforms, exhibitions, or publications. 8. Notifications
Winners will be notified directly through their registered contact details. Non-winning participants will receive automated notifications regarding the outcome of their submissions. Upon the successful submission of each entry, a confirmation email will be issued.
