A Global Gathering around Image Data in 2026

Published June 16, 2026

The second edition of the Euro-BioImaging Image Data Community Days brought the global image data community together for five days of learning, exchange, and collaboration. Held online from 13–17 April 2026, the event featured lectures, hands-on workshops, and networking sessions designed to support everyone working with image data; from students and researchers to facility staff and data specialists. Today we're excited to announce that everyone can now benefit from and revisit the sessions through the openly available recordings.

Five days of data exchange and hands-on learning

Building on the success and feedback from 2025, the 2026 programme placed a stronger emphasis on hands-on sessions and interactive exchange. Over five days, participants could engage in more than 40 hours of content, including 50+ talks, workshops, and networking events. The programme reflected the evolving needs of the image data community, with sessions spanning image analysis, FAIR data, metadata, workflow development, preclinical and medical imaging, and the tools and infrastructures that support reproducible research.  In total, nearly 500 participants from 43 countries took part over the week.

By combining expert presentations with practical sessions, the event created space for both in-depth discussion and applied learning. Welcoming participants from diverse disciplines and roles, it fostered collaboration and knowledge sharing.

No one needs to reinvent the wheel, better take the time to learn what is available out there.

Strengthening connections in the community

Feedback confirmed that the 2026 edition successfully built on the momentum of the first event. The mix of expert presentations and interactive sessions made it easier for attendees to engage with the material and connect with one another. Participants rated the experience very highly, with nearly all reporting a stronger sense of connection to the imaging community. A key strength remained its openness: by being fully online and free to attend, the Image Data Community Days continued to lower barriers to participation and reach a broad international audience. This accessibility helped strengthen the sense of a shared, global community around image data.

I am from where the research infrastructure is not well-support. Seeing this event is kind of opening up my eye.

The community can now carry these connections forward, continuing the collaborative spirit that made this year’s event so positive. The edition reaffirmed the importance of shared learning and open exchange while creating a collaborative atmosphere that brought the community together around a common goal. We’re already planning for the next edition in spring 2027, so if you have any wishes let us know.
