On 11 May 2026, Austrian BioImaging/CMI celebrated its 11th anniversary with a special event at the SkyLounge of the University of Vienna, bringing together members of the Austrian and European imaging communities to reflect on more than a decade of achievements in biological and biomedical imaging. Euro-BioImaging had the pleasure of attending, represented by its Directorate: John Eriksson, Antje Keppler, and Linda Chaabane. This inspiring event demonstrated the impact of being part of Euro-BioImaging in advancing research and creating connections within the imaging community.

Since its foundation in 2015, Austrian BioImaging has grown into a leading nation-wide imaging infrastructure, joining Euro-BioImaging as the Austrian Node in 2021. The anniversary event welcomed shareholders, ministry representatives, Euro-BioImaging Directors, and partners from across Austria’s scientific ecosystem. Hosted by Austrian BioImaging Directors Baubak Bajoghli and Wolfgang Weninger, the programme featured keynote presentations, scientific showcases, and discussions highlighting the impact of open-access imaging infrastructures on research and innovation.

Throughout the afternoon, participants explored a broad range of imaging applications and collaborative projects, including advances in plant phenotyping, AI for imaging in plant science and agriculture, multimodal imaging pipelines, and cancer and infectious disease research supported through European initiatives such as canSERV, ISIDORe, and AgroServ. A panel discussion on the impact of open-access imaging infrastructures brought together Martina Marchetti-Deschmann, Vice-Rector Vetmeduni, Antje Keppler and Linda Chaabane, Euro-BioImaging Bio-Hub & Med-Hub Section Directors, to discuss the future of imaging services, collaboration, and open access infrastructures across Europe.

Austrian BioImaging today connects 29 core facilities and research groups across eight Austrian universities and research institutions, providing researchers with open access to advanced imaging technologies, expertise, and training opportunities. The anniversary celebration highlighted both the strength of the Austrian imaging community and the importance of international collaboration through Euro-BioImaging. Thank you, Austrian BioImaging, for the opportunity to be part of this fantastic event highlighting the success story of the Austrian BioImaging community.
