Euro-BioImaging represented at the 23rd European Conference on Computational Biology

European Conference on Computational Biology 2024 (ECCB) is the biggest computational biology and bioinformatics event of 2024. This year, it brought more than 750 scientists and experts from more than 50 countries to Turku, Finland, from September 16-20. The theme of this year was “Data and algorithms for health and science”, nicely overlapping with the themes of Euro-BioImaging and several of the EU projects we are involved in.

Euro-BioImaging had a booth where we got to talk to researchers and experts spanning computational biology, systems biology, bioinformatics, AI, biology, and medicine. We also had a chance to interact with the other exhibitors, representatives from the Elixir Hub and CSC - IT Centre for Science who told us about the opportunities that LUMI, Europe’s fastest supercomputer, offers. 

The conference programme included top keynotes, e.g. by Sarah Teichmann “Mapping the Human body, one cell at a time”, which brought together imaging and computational biology. There were high-quality scientific talks, workshops and tutorials, and lively poster sessions with more than 400 posters. An inspiring novel format was a Scientific Debate on medical data sharing and privacy protection by Yves Moreau and Melissa Haendel, and moderated by Tommi Nyrönen.

We really enjoyed spreading the word about the foundingGIDE project, AI4Life, EOSC4cancer, EUCAIM, BY-COVID, and other data projects Euro-BioImaging is involved in as well as talking about our image data services.
