PicoQuant, a leading optoelectronics company based in Berlin, has joined the Euro-BioImaging industry internship programme for Master's students in Biomedical Imaging (BIMA) at the University of Turku and Åbo Akademi University, Turku, Finland. This expansion comes after the successful completion of the pilot phase in 2023-2024, with PicoQuant set to offer internship positions starting in 2025.
"We are excited to join this collaboration with BIMA and Euro-BioImaging and offer the first internship position to MSc students in the BIMA programme."
says Frederik Siegmann, Head of Marketing at PicoQuant and EBIB member. "As a company at the forefront of single photon counting applications, we see this as an excellent opportunity to engage with talented students and contribute to their practical education in advanced imaging technologies."
PicoQuant's internship project will focus on creating educational materials for time-resolved fluorescence microscopes and spectrometers, allowing students to gain hands-on experience with state-of-the-art equipment while developing their technical communication skills.

The Industry Internship Programme, which already includes partnerships with ZEISS and TissueGnostics GmbH, aims to provide students with valuable industry experience to inform their future career choices. With PicoQuant's participation, students now have access to internships at three leading companies with different technology focus and job profiles.
“Our MSc programme offers a very comprehensive qualification in imaging that could be very interesting, including theoretical and practical knowledge with a wide range of imaging technologies, as well as wet lab and image data analysis experience”, Kari Vienola and Diana Toivola from the BIMA Programme explain. ”By broadening the partnership with industry partners, all at the forefront of their respective fields, we can ensure that we find a good match between the student’s interest and strengths, and the qualifications a company is looking for in a given project.”
This collaboration further strengthens the bridge between academia and industry in the field of imaging, offering students unique opportunities to apply their knowledge in real-world settings.
