The European Commission has published its new Strategy on Research & Technology Infrastructures that aims to "make the EU the best place in the world for research & innovation." Announced at the European Research & Innovation Days, which took place in Brussels from September 16-17, this new strategy will strengthen European research & technology infrastructures for the benefit of excellent science.
The strategy highlights that research infrastructures, such as Euro-BioImaging ERIC providing open access to cutting-edge imaging technologies and services, concentrate the best tools and expertise, making them available to the broad research community. Further strengthening infrastructures and building talent ensures innovation & competitiveness of the European Research Area in the global arena. The strategy calls for open access, FAIR data, strong talent pipelines and closer links between science and industry.
Several nice perspectives on the new strategy were captured in an article published in "Horizon: The EU Research and Innovation" magazine of the European Commission, with quotes from ERIC Forum Chair and Euro-BioImaging Bio-Hub Director, Antje Keppler and ERIC Forum co-Chair and Director General of ELI - Extreme Light Infrastructure ERIC, Allen Weeks. This article really highlights the importance of collaboration and knowledge-sharing for competitiveness.
With open, cross-border access to cutting-edge imaging technologies and expertise, a range of FAIR image data services and AI digital tools, training for imaging scientists and data stewards, strong collaboration with industry partners and robust and sustainable operations across our European Node network, Euro-BioImaging will continue to deliver on these ambitions—turning Europe’s strategy into real impact for life science and biomedical research.
The R&I days were the opportunity to showcase the recently published European Strategy for Research & Technology Infrastructures. Euro-BioImaging Hub team members Amaranta Amador Bernal, Ilari Pulli and Anne-Charlotte Joubert represented Euro-BioImaging at this event, attending sessions on Life Sciences Strategy, AI in Sciences, Securing Europe’s place at the forefront of scientific discovery & more, along with contributing to engaging discussions with the project exhibitors at the event.
