SME Access Pilot: Funding for Imaging Services for Start-ups and SMEs

Are you a start-up or SME looking to solve a research or technical challenge using advanced imaging? The Euro-BioImaging SME Access Pilot offers funded access to Europe's leading biological and biomedical imaging facilities, helping companies generate proof-of-concept data, evaluate new technologies, access specialised expertise, or test innovative ideas.

Successful applicants will receive funded access to Euro-BioImaging services, including advanced imaging instruments, technical expertise, image data analysis and specialist support. Projects may be carried out on-site, remotely or as a full-service collaboration, depending on your needs.

What is available?

We will fund pilot projects with up to €4,000 to cover eligible facility access costs. Funding is provided directly to the selected Euro-BioImaging facility and is not a cash grant. Companies may contribute additional funding if their project exceeds the funding limit or they wish to expand the project scope.

The pilot supports short projects that can help your company:

  • evaluate imaging technologies before making longer-term investments;
  • generate proof-of-concept or feasibility data;
  • access specialised imaging expertise or image data analysis;
  • validate new methods or tools;
  • accelerate research and development activities.

Who can apply?

The call is open to micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) established in EU Member States and Horizon Europe Associated Countries. Projects must be led by the applicant company, and only one application per company may be submitted. Projects led by researchers at universities and public research organisations are not eligible.

First-time users of Euro-BioImaging facilities are particularly encouraged to apply. Applications from new users receive additional points during the evaluation.

How to apply

Before submitting your application, you will discuss your project with a Euro-BioImaging service provider to confirm technical feasibility and prepare a cost estimate. If you are unsure which imaging technology or facility is most suitable, our Access Managers will help you identify the right service.

Applications consist of a short Application Form completed jointly with your chosen service provider. Full instructions are available in the Applicant Guidelines.
