Euro-BioImaging plays an active role on the European stage, and is heavily invested in direct EU stakeholder engagement, and collaborations on the European level, including via the ERIC Forum and other initiatives. ERIC Forum is the bottom-up organisation of all currently existing 30 ERICs, which support each other in their implementation as well as operation. Via the Forum ERICs speak with one voice to their major stakeholders at the European level (including the European Commission, ESFRI, Member States) and therefore, the ERIC Forum is one of the leading science policy voices in Europe. Euro-BioImaging Bio-Hub Director, Antje Keppler, currently acts as Chair of the ERIC Forum.
Furthermore, Euro-BioImaging is active in the ERIC Forum 2 project, leading Work Package 6 at the forefront of aligning ERICs with EU policy priorities specifically for user access and enhancing visibility in national arenas, including drafting white papers to outline general positions such as the future Framework Program 10. Euro-BioImaging actively participates in joint efforts to extend the ERICs’ impact beyond Horizon Europe’s Excellent Science Pillar I into addressing Global Challenges and European Industrial Competitiveness (Pillar II) and bolstering European Innovation (Pillar III).
Additionally, Euro-BioImaging supports implementing recommendations from the ERIC Forum Policy, EGERIC, and OECD Reports to address systemic bottlenecks. Our role includes analysing key challenges for ERIC sustainability and ensuring transnational access to research infrastructures, which contributed to the recent revisions of the European Charter of Access to Research Infrastructures.
