Policy Initiatives

Euro-BioImaging plays an active role on the European stage, and is heavily invested in direct EU stakeholder engagement and collaborations on the European level, including via the European Research Infrastructure Consortium Forum (ERIC Forum), the European Strategy Forum on Research and Innovation (ESFRI) Stakeholders Forum, Life Science Research Infrastructure (LS RI) Strategy Board and European Open Science Cloud (EOSC). Via these pathways, Euro-BioImaging Hub team members raise awareness of imaging infrastructures and influence European policy to support research infrastructures, open science, open data and AI.

ERIC Forum

ERIC Forum is the bottom-up organisation of the European Research Infrastructure Consortium (ERIC). Via the Forum, ERICs speak with one voice to their major stakeholders and, therefore, the ERIC Forum is one of the leading science policy voices in Europe.

Euro-BioImaging Bio-Hub Director, Antje Keppler, was Chair of the ERIC Forum for two consecutive terms, from January 1, 2023-January 1, 2026. Under her strong lead, the Forum continued to grow as a trusted partner for the European Commission, ESFRI, and the ERIC Committee, providing important input to policy discussions on sustainability, access, and governance of large-scale RIs, and nourishing the new Strategy on European Research & Technology Infrastructures.

In addition, the Euro-BioImaging team is active in the ERIC Forum 2 project, leading Work Package 6 at the forefront of aligning ERICs with EU policy priorities, specifically for user access and enhancing visibility in national arenas.

ESFRI Stakeholders Forum

The ESFRI Stakeholders Forum is a platform established by ESFRI in 2022 with the ambition to instigate an open dialogue among the different European research infrastructure stakeholders, in order to reinforce the position of Research Infrastructures (RIs) as an essential pillar of the European Research Area (ERA).

LS RI Strategy Board

The Life Sciences Research Infrastructure (LS RI) group aims to represent its stakeholders and users in the strategic planning of the European RI ecosystem. The LSRI works to improve the integration and interconnectedness of their services and activities and keenly engage with RIs in other thematic domains. Collectively, it supports a fully integrated RI universe that will underpin the ambitions of the European Research Area (ERA).

EOSC

The European Open Science Cloud is a technological and policy endeavour that aims to create a “Web of FAIR Data and Services” for science in Europe. It will enable a trusted virtual environment, based on common core functionalities, to support Open Science. Key digital infrastructure, data, and services will be accessible to researchers, to help them store, share, process, analyse and reuse FAIR research outputs within and across disciplines.
